The head of Ecuador said he would gladly accept US assistance in arms supplies.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa said that the country needs weapons and intelligence to fight terrorism and drug trafficking, noting that he would gladly accept help from the United States.

“We need international cooperation. I would gladly accept cooperation from the United States. We need equipment, weapons, intelligence,” Noboa said in English. The post was published on his page on the social network X.

He noted that the problem with terrorism and drug trafficking is global in nature and goes beyond the borders of Ecuador.

Unrest in Ecuador began after two gang leaders escaped from a Guayaquil prison in early January. President Daniel Noboa declared a state of emergency on January 8 to activate the armed forces. On the night of January 9, criminals began to burn cars and buses, and homemade bombs exploded. On the same day, unknown persons with weapons burst into the studio of the TC TV channel and were detained. After this, Noboa declared an internal armed conflict and ordered the army to neutralize 22 criminal groups numbering tens of thousands of members.

The current head of Ecuador came to power under the slogans of fighting crime, which has reached alarming proportions. During the last election campaign alone, the presidential candidate of the Construye political movement, Fernando Villavicencio, as well as the leader of the Civil Revolution political movement in the Ecuadorian province of Esmeraldas, Pedro Briones, were killed.
