The Greenpeace founder will remain in custody until September 5.

Canadian captain Paul Watson, one of the founders of the environmental organizations Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd, who was arrested in Greenland, will be held until September 5 while awaiting a decision on extradition to Japan, a local police spokesman said.

The corresponding decision to extend the arrest was made by the court in the capital of Greenland, Nuuk, on Thursday.

“Watson will remain in custody until September 5,” a police spokesman said.


Watson appealed the Nuuk court decision.

Earlier it became known that the Danish Ministry of Justice received a request from the Japanese authorities for the extradition of one of the founders of the environmental organizations Greenpeace and Sea Shepherd, Paul Watson, who was arrested in Greenland. A representative of the Danish Federal Police reported that the arrest was related to Captain Watson’s action against whaling.
