The German Journalists’ Union criticized Scholz for his demands on the media.

It is the responsibility of the German Chancellor to inform the media and the public about the stages of the government’s work,  the chairman of the German Union of Journalists (DJV), Mika Beuster, said, commenting on the statement of Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Earlier, Scholz said in an interview with Tagesspiegel that the media could cover the work of the country’s Cabinet more thoroughly, paying attention to its essential and substantive aspects.

“The job of the Federal Chancellor is to implement policy, explain it and answer questions from journalists,” Boister commented on the Chancellor’s words.

According to him, it seems that Scholz is avoiding certain issues.

“It is unworthy of the chancellor to shift problems onto journalists – after all, he is responsible for his policies. A massive scolding of the media will not increase his rating,” he emphasized.

The government’s rating this weekend reached a historic low since it came to power and stands at 29%, according to the results of a survey conducted by the INSA institute for the publication Bild am Sonntag.
