Gabon’s borders will remain closed until further notice, military sources said.

The military of Gabon said they would end the regime in the country, shooting was heard in the capital, Libreville.

Earlier Wednesday, Gabon’s military announced on television that the election results were annulled and the institutions of government were dissolved. At the same time, at the moment it remains unclear what kind of political force in the country is supported by the military.


On Wednesday morning, Gabon’s incumbent President Ali Bongo Ondimba was re-elected as head of state with 64.2% of the vote. The opposition candidate in the Gabon elections, academic Albert Ondo Ossa, came in second with 30.7% of the vote.

Incumbent Ali Bongo Ondimba’s team has denied Ondo Ossa’s allegations of electoral fraud.
