The G20 called for strengthening measures to comply with domestic tax obligations.

G20 finance ministers called for strengthening measures to comply with domestic tax obligations so that taxpayers – including high-income ones – could not use shadow schemes, and also paid particular attention to the benefits of progressive taxation, follows from the declaration following the meeting in Rio de Janeiro -Janeiro.

“It is important that all taxpayers, including the ultra-high net worth, pay their fair share of taxes… No one should be able to avoid paying taxes, including by circumventing transparency standards. Therefore, greater efforts must be made to ensure full compliance with internal tax obligations,” the document says.

It is also noted that promoting effective, fair and progressive tax policies remains an important task for the G20 countries, which requires both cooperation between countries and domestic reforms.

“Progressive taxation is a key tool for reducing domestic inequality, strengthening fiscal sustainability, promoting fiscal consolidation, and promoting strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth,” the document says.

Earlier it became known that the ministers could not agree on the introduction of a global tax for billionaires, but agreed to continue discussing this topic in the future.
