The first case of cholera since 1921 was registered in Bulgaria; the patient was a 23-year-old Indian, local media reported, citing a statement from the Bulgarian Ministry of Health.

“An imported case of cholera has been confirmed in Bulgaria, the first such case in 103 years. The patient is a 23-year-old Indian citizen who recently traveled to New Delhi,” the media report said.

As the publication notes with reference to the capital’s regional health inspection, the next day upon returning from South Asia, the tourist began to experience symptoms of acute diarrhea, a laboratory test confirmed the diagnosis of cholera, after which he was hospitalized, now his general health is assessed as good.

A person in the patient’s close social circle was also quarantined and tested negative for cholera. The medical facility where the patient is kept has taken measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
