The EC called for establishing a minimum volume of ammunition stocks in EU warehouses.

EU member states must set a minimum amount of artillery ammunition stockpiles that must be held in their warehouses to restart their military-industrial complex.

This was stated by Lithuanian Member of the European Parliament Andrius Kubilius, who was offered the post of European Commissioner for Defense and Space in the new composition of the European Commission (EC).

“Why don’t we have a criterion called military security whereby a certain amount of artillery shells and other products such as explosives must be stored?” – he said.

Kubilius noted that in this way it is possible to create a “constant demand for the production” of ammunition for the defense industry of EU countries, which “lacks stable long-term orders.”

According to him, the European Union has managed to increase the production of artillery shells over the past two years, but Brussels is “still behind the Russians” in this matter. At the same time, Kubilius argued that he had no desire to duplicate the role of NATO. Several alliance officials are dissatisfied with the EU’s moves to create its own defense structures, since the EU has a different “set of standards regarding equipment and procurement procedures.”

Kubilius, in turn, emphasized that he intends to work closely with Ukrainian military manufacturers who have “real experience” in using equipment in combat conditions.
