The entry of Germany into the so-called “United Nations Command,” which unites US allies in the Korean War of 1950-1953, will only worsen the situation in the region, and Germany will bear responsibility for this, the DPRK Foreign Ministry said.

“The United Nations Command is a multilateral body of aggression under the leadership of the United States… The DPRK Foreign Ministry considers Germany’s entry into the United Nations Command an act of destruction of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, which aggravates the situation… (This) will inevitably worsen the military-political situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the entire region… Full responsibility for the consequences will lie entirely with Germany,” the official representative of the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The statement states that Berlin’s decision to join military intervention in the affairs of the Korean Peninsula, which is “the hottest spot in the world,” will be a “harmful factor” for the security of Germany and its international image.

The North Korean Foreign Ministry also called the US attempts to revive the functioning of the command, which “should have disappeared in the last century,” as a desire to turn it into a “second “Asian NATO.” In response to this, Pyongyang will continue to “more consistently implement measures to strengthen its independent defense capability,” the representative of the DPRK Foreign Ministry emphasized.

In early August, it became known that Germany had joined the United Nations Command, which was once created by the United States to coordinate the efforts of the allies during the Korean War of 1950-1953. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who took part in the official accession ceremony, which took place at the main US military base in South Korea, said that Germany will now “share responsibility for protecting the borders of the Korean Peninsula.” Asked whether Germany’s decision to take over would be an irritant to North Korea and Russia, Pistorius said there was no reason to perceive it as a provocation and that the current decision was “only in compliance with Berlin’s oath” to international rule-based order.”
