The death toll from the Israeli strike on Beirut has risen to 50.

The death toll from an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut has risen to 50, Lebanon’s civil defense authority said.

Previously, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported 45 deaths.

“The death toll from Israeli airstrikes in the southern suburbs has risen to 50,” the statement said.

Civil Defense added that 11 more people are still missing.


On Friday, an eyewitness described strong explosions in the southern suburbs of Beirut. Several multi-storey residential buildings received significant damage. Israeli army radio Galei IDF reported that the target of the Israeli airstrike on Beirut was a senior commander of the Shiite Hezbollah movement.

Hezbollah confirmed on Saturday night that the movement’s special operations commander, Ibrahim Aqil, was killed in the attack. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said an airstrike on a Beirut suburb on Friday killed 15 other members of the movement along with Aqil, including senior commanders of the elite Radwan special forces unit.
