The tennis star Novak Djokovic believes we could soon start seeing competitive tennis again. However, it is likely to be regional tournaments that offer no ranking points, the athlete says.
Tennis has been on a pause since early March due to the novel pathogen. The epidemic made the athletes and sports organizations like ATP and WTA to provide their policies. So far, the powers that be have pencilled on July 13 as a possible return date, Tennis365 reports.
While the ATP officials have admitted they aren’t sure that the tennis will get underway again in mid-July, others have suggested there won’t be any action for the remainder of 2020 or until an anti-COVID vaccine becomes available.
Novak Djokovic, the world number one, admits it is complicated to restart the ATP tour but feels the tennis players could have regional events that offer prize money, but no ranking points. That is one of the possible working options so far, the athlete believes.
“I think there will be more regional prize money tournaments. I think this is what’s going to happen very soon,” he said during an Instagram live chat with another tennis player, Fabio Fognini.
Quarantine made a mess in the traditional process of things in tennis. Novak confessed he doesn’t know what’s going to happen with the restriction further. Spain, Italy, and all the other countries in the world will probably have different models to come out of quarantine.
No need to be surprised that for both organizers and athletes it will be not easy to start the tour because our tour is every week in different countries.
“So I think there will be regional prize money tournaments, but probably not (rankings) points at the moment because it’s very complicated,” Novak Djokovic said.
Djokovic explained his words on vaccine
Commenting on the latest developments on coronavirus fight and vaccines, the tennis player said he would like to know more details about the whole process, before making the right decisions.
“I am curious about wellbeing and I am going to spend the whole lifetime learning about body and how we can empower our metabolism to be in best shape to defend against imposters like Covid 19,” Novak said.
Talking on the epidemiological situation and courage of the medical staff across the planet, Noval expressed his fullest respect and gratitude to all the noble and compassionate medical people who are giving support to the ones that need it the most.
“I am no expert, but I do want to have an option to chose what’s best for my body. I am keeping an open mind, and I’ll continue to research on this topic because it is important and it will affect all of us,” Novak added.
