Sweden’s accession to NATO was suspended amid actions with the burning of the Koran.

Sweden interrupted the process of joining NATO because of the desecration of the Koran, said the head of the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tobias Billström.

“The events of the past few weeks have temporarily put the process on hold,” he said.

At the same time, the minister expressed hope that agreements with Turkey could be reached at the summit of the foreign ministries of the alliance countries in Vilnius in July.

On the eve of Agence France-Presse reported that the Danish radical politician Rasmus Paludan burned the Koran at a mosque in Copenhagen. Later it became known that he held a similar action at the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Denmark. The diplomatic mission condemned such actions.
