The ‘explosive device’ was found in a package sent to the home of Bill and Hillary Clinton late on Tuesday, the package was addressed to the former first lady. The second similar package addressed to Obama’s home, both bombs were intercepted by Secret Service personnel in Washington DC early this morning, BBC reported on Wednesday.
Both explosive devices sent to the homes of two former presidents were functional ones, confirmed the US official. The Security Guard could detect the dangerous content during a screening of mail.
“Early this morning, October 24, 2018, a second package addressed to the residence of Former President Barack Obama was intercepted by Secret Service personnel in Washington, DC,” the White House statement reads.
Mrs Clinton and Mr Obama were at risk of receiving the packages, but thanks to the security measures, they avoided the potentially dangerous consequences. A full-scale manhunt is now underway to find the individuals responsible. Later, both ‘terroristic’ packages were forcibly detonated by deminers.
Meanwhile, the FBI New York said in its written comment on Twitter that investigation has started.
White House spokeswoman condemned the “attempted violent attacks” against the public figures, saying that “The United States Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies are investigating and will take all appropriate actions to protect anyone threatened by these cowards.”
This week, two more explosive devices were also found outside the home of billionaire philanthropist George Soros and in the CNN building.
