Shiite groups in Iraq claimed responsibility for the shelling of a US base in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq, which includes Shiite armed groups, claimed responsibility for the shelling of an American base at the Koniko gas field in Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria.

Earlier, a source reported that the US base at the Koniko field came under rocket fire and three explosions were heard.

“Fighters of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq attacked with missiles the base of the American occupiers at the Koniko gas field in the north of Deir ez-Zor,” the formations said in a statement.

Earlier, the Islamic Resistance of Iraq said it had attacked the US Green Village base in Deir ez-Zor with the help of drones.

The US military has 24 military bases and four points in Syria. US bases in Syria have come under repeated drone and missile attacks in recent weeks.

The US military illegally controls territories in eastern and northeastern Syria in the provinces of Deir ez-Zor, Al-Hasakah and Raqqa, where Syria’s largest oil and gas fields are located. Official Damascus has repeatedly called the presence of American troops on its territory occupation and state piracy for the purpose of blatant oil theft.
