Scholz called a possible increase in heating prices “social explosive”

The rise in heating prices will become a “social explosive”, the dynamics of the situation in this matter depends on the possible cessation of supplies from Russia, Scholz said. Earlier Khabek said that Russia wants to “ignite social unrest”

A sharp increase in the cost of heating in the winter threatens Germany with social unrest, the country’s authorities are taking measures to reduce risks and ensure uninterrupted energy supply, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The situation with rising heating prices will become a “social explosive” if the cost rises by several hundred euros, the Chancellor said. Scholz was asked if he could guarantee the people of Germany that they would not get cold in winter, to which he replied: “It depends on many things that happen all over the world.” As an example, he cited the risk of a complete halt in gas supplies from Russia.

Now the German authorities are taking measures to resolve the crisis: liquefied gas (LNG) terminals are being built, for which the necessary changes are being made to the legislation, coal-fired power plants are being put into operation, the head of the German government listed.

The German authorities have repeatedly expressed concerns about the issue of gas supply and heating in the coming winter season. Against this background, the heating company Vattenfall announced the construction of the largest heat storage tank in Germany with a capacity of 56 million liters. It will be launched, however, only in April next year.
