Russian top diplomat Sergei Lavrov assured his counterpart, Rex Tillerson, that Moscow is still ready to work with Washington. Despite the striking back initiatives, Russia keeps the positive tone in the relations with the United States.
The Russian foreign minister Lavrov takes part in the summit in the Philippines, the ASEAN meetings showed that Russia is still ready to cooperate with the US despite the wave of new sanctions being readied approved by Congress.
“Lavrov confirmed that our country is still ready to normalise bilateral relations with the US and to cooperate on the most important international issues,”
Russia’s foreign ministry confirmed after a phone call between Rex Tillerson and Sergei Lavrov. The two top diplomats agreed that the cooperation is possible only on the basis of equality. According to the Russian side, the mutual respect and balancing interests are extremely important.

Russia appreciates the efforts the Philippines makes to combat terrorism and extremism, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said during the talks with the Philippine Foreign Secretary Peter Cayetano.
“We fully share the efforts that your country is making to eliminate any threat of extremism on its territory,”
Lavrov said. The Russian diplomat added that Russia also appreciates the international community’s solidarity with the actions of the Putin’s government to combat terrorism. This painful problem must go through together only, concluded Mr Lavrov.
