Norwegian Prime Minister pledges support to Finland and Sweden

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre promised at a press conference on Monday that his country, as well as Denmark and Iceland, would support Finland and Sweden in the event of a military threat.

“Norway, Denmark and Iceland are ready to support Sweden and Finland by any means necessary if they are attacked before they officially join NATO,” the prime minister said.

“This is very important for northern cooperation. This support is a clear signal from us. We will do our best to ensure that Norway quickly ratifies Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership,” Støre said.

According to Støre, both Finland and Sweden already meet the criteria for joining the defense alliance, their membership in NATO will contribute to collective defense and security in the North Atlantic.
