North Korea has launched more than 160 garbage balloons into South Korea since Wednesday evening, the South Korean military said.

As the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of South Korea clarified, the DPRK launched more than 160 balloons from Wednesday evening to Thursday night. About 30 bags of trash were found in northern areas of central Gyeonggi province, which surrounds Seoul, and the capital region.

The bags contained household waste: paper, plastic bottles and other pieces of plastic. However, no hazardous substances were detected.

Since the end of May, North Korea has launched thousands of garbage balloons towards South Korea more than 21 times in response to anti-Pyongyang leaflets sent to the DPRK, which were also sent to the North in balloons by North Korean defectors and activists from South Korea.
