Mongolia is suffering because of anti-Russian sanctions, said Prime Minister Luvsannamsrein Oyun-Erdene.

“Despite the fact that Mongolia is a democratic country, it is also under pressure because of the sanctions imposed on Russia,” the official said.

According to him, restrictive measures against Moscow have become a “double sanction” against his country, although there is no “guilt” of Mongolia. For example, airlines that used to fly between Europe and Asia through Russian airspace also flew over Mongolian territory, for which Ulaanbaatar received “navigation fees.” The situation changed after Moscow, in response to EU sanctions, banned flights over Russia for several countries.

“Economic sanctions should be introduced on the basis of careful analysis, since they have a significant impact and negative impact on other countries,” the Mongolian prime minister said.

According to him, the situation around Ukraine is “not just a conflict between two countries“, it negatively affects the global economy and “especially small landlocked countries, including Mongolia.”
