Moldovan farmers intend to resume protests.

Moldovan farmers intend to resume protests because the country’s authorities have not fulfilled their promises to support them, executive director of the Farmers’ Power association Alexandru Badarau said on Thursday.

Farmers in Moldova protested in mid-September, demanding that the authorities revise the law on deferring payments to banks, as they believe that such assistance will not be provided to all farms affected by the drought. They agreed to postpone the protests until October 10 in exchange for demanding the resignation of Minister Vladimir Boli, as well as providing them with financial support.

“Tomorrow (October 11), in front of the parliament building, farmers will officially announce the resumption of protests, since the measures taken by the state are ineffective,” Badarau told reporters.

According to him, farmers were waiting for help, but the authorities did not fulfill “neither oral nor written” promises.

The Power of Farmers association back in July demanded that the authorities introduce a state of emergency at the national level due to the drought. The government has allocated $5.7 million to farmers, but farmers consider this support insufficient.
