Mexico has reported new data on those killed when a stage at a rally collapsed.

The death toll when a stage collapsed at a rally in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, ending the campaign of presidential candidate Jorge Maines, has risen to nine, state Governor Samuel Garcia said.

At the end of the rally, Maines, who was on the stage, had the back of it blown off by strong winds. Video on social networks showed a metal structure with a huge banner flying over the speakers and falling on the audience. Earlier, the governor reported five dead and about 50 injured.

“I regret to inform you that so far, eight adults and one minor have died as a result of the emergency,” Garcia wrote on the social network X.

As local media write, also citing the words of the governor, the number of victims has increased to 63. They are already receiving medical care in various hospitals in the city.

The meeting was the final meeting for Maines’ presidential campaign and took place in the region with the strongest support for his party, Movimiento Ciudadano, where local governor García also represents the movement.
