Meryl Streep and Karl Lagerfeld are not friends anymore, the Hollywood actress has released a statement, in which she explains a couturier Karl Lagerfeld‘s false accusation that she would be paid to wear a Chanel dress at the Oscar red carpet.
The ‘Kramer vs Kramer’ star fires back at Karl Lagerfeld, two celebrities are accusing each other in defamation. Meryl Streep and her stylist Micaela Erlanger had been in talks with Chanel to possibly wear one of their designs at the Oscars in 2017. Later, the American ladies changed their mind, choosing to go with another brand.
This affront was really painful for the world famous couturier Lagerfeld, he co-operated with Meryl many years before. A bit later, Karl noted in the conversation with WWD that the American actress chose to go with a designer that would pay her to wear their dress.
In her turn, Meryl‘s rep released immediately the statement denying Karl’s accusation, Streep’s stylist also clarified the situation with Chanel. Finally, the French brand also apologised for the mix-up.
On the eve of Oscar 2017, Meryl herself is speaking out to slam the designer and the publication that ran the story. Karl Lagerfeld also spoke out and she references his statement in her own, obviously, the scandal is going on.
