French President Emmanuel Macron, during a meeting with Pope Francis, will present him with an original edition of Albert Camus’s essay “Summer” and Felix Reynaud’s work “Nautical esque votoes of Notre-Dame de la Garde”, Provence reported on Saturday.
⠀
“This Saturday, Emmanuel Macron will give Pope Francis “Summer” by Albert Camus and “Marine ex-voto of Notre-Dame de la Garde” by Felix Reynaud,” the media writes.
⠀
In the essay “Summer,” the author takes the reader throughout the Mediterranean: first he describes Camus’s native Algeria, then he shows Greece, and finally he takes him to the Atlantic for a closer look at the sea.
⠀
The second book is the result of ten years of work on the study of ex-voto (objects or images that are brought to the church for prayer or petition to God), which are kept in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de la Garde. The work describes 135 ex-votos brought to the cathedral from 1810 to 1998, the article says.
⠀
It is noted that the French President signed Camus’ book with the following words: “For His Holiness Pope Francis. In memory of these days in Marseille – the headboards of our Mediterranean. With fraternal friendship.”
⠀
Pope Francis’ two-day visit to Marseille began on Friday, during which he is scheduled to participate in the Catholic initiative “Mediterranean Meetings” and meet with French President Emmanuel Macron. On Saturday, the pope will hold a mass at the Orange Velodrome stadium, where 57,000 people are expected.
