Japanese PM reiterates commitment to holding Tokyo Olympics

The Japanese prime minister Suga has reiterated his intention to welcome the upcoming Olympic Games in 2021. Despite the pandemic, Tokyo is ready to host the sports event of the global scale, the top official said, according to Xinhua.

PM Suga has outlined his policy agendas on Monday, stressing his determination to contain the coronavirus outbreak. According to the top official, Japan will press ahead with preparations, with the determination of building watertight anti-infection measures. The aim is holding an event that can bring hope and courage to the world, added Suga.

Amid the pandemic, the athletes of the world have to plan to start competition at the global showpiece event in less than 200 days.

Both the International Olympics Committee and Tokyo 2020 organizing committee had reaffirmed their commitment to hosting the already-delayed Tokyo 2020 Games this summer.

“To protect the lives and health of the Japanese people… I will get the situation back to normal as soon as possible,” Suga said.
