Agreements are currently underway to hold a meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Government Secretary-General Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference in Tokyo.

“In conditions when there are many different opportunities in relations between Japan and China and at the same time many tasks and complex problems, dialogue at a high level, including the level of heads of state, and the search for mutual understanding is important… Therefore, approvals are now underway to hold a meeting of the prime ministers -Minister Ishiba in connection with his visit to Peru and Brazil to participate in APEC and the G20 and with the Chairman of the State Council of China Xi Jinping,” the Secretary General of the Government said.

Earlier, Japanese media reported that Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba would hold his first meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in mid-November, most likely in Brazil on the sidelines of APEC.

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba will visit Peru and Brazil from November 14 to 21 to attend the APEC summit in Peru on November 15-16 and the G20 summit on November 18-19 in Brazil.
