Iran reacted to the incident in the Golan Heights.

The strike on the village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights is a “fake scenario” by Tel Aviv to divert public attention from its crimes in the Gaza Strip, any unreasonable action by Israel could cause instability in the Middle East region, for which responsibility will be borne the Israeli side, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani.

On Saturday, Israel reported the death of 12 people in a strike on the Golan Heights. The Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah stated that it denies involvement in the shelling of the village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Despite this, Israeli officials began to declare that war with Hezbollah and Lebanon was imminent.

“After ten months of mass murder in the Gaza Strip…, the murder of Palestinian women and children, the Israeli apartheid regime seeks to divert the attention of the world community from its mass crimes in Palestine with the help of a false scenario… The Israeli regime has not the slightest moral right to speak out and judge about the incident that occurred in the Majdal Shams region, and the statements of this regime (directed) against others will not be heard,” Kanaani was quoted as saying by the official Telegram channel of the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said any unwise Israeli action could lead to instability and war in the region, in which case Kanaani said Tel Aviv would bear the main responsibility for the unintended consequences of its behavior. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman called on the United States, instead of continuing to arm Israel with weapons of mass destruction and supporting its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to “fulfill its international and moral responsibility regarding world peace and security and not allow the Israeli regime to ignite a new flame that will affect” and Israel itself.

Earlier, Iranian Ambassador to Beirut Mojtaba Amani said against the backdrop of Israeli threats against Lebanon and the Iran-backed Shiite movement Hezbollah after the shelling of the Golan Heights, that Iran does not expect or want an expansion of military operations in Lebanon and in the region.

Until 1967, the Golan Heights were part of the Syrian province of Quneitra, inhabited mainly by Druze, a distinct ethno-religious group of Arabs. During the Six Day War of 1967, as well as the Fourth Arab-Israeli War in 1973, two-thirds of this strategic territory was captured by Israel. In 1981, the Jewish state unilaterally declared sovereignty over the region, but the UN Security Council did not recognize this decision, considering the Golan Heights to be occupied Syrian territory.

In March 2019, then US President Donald Trump recognized the occupied Golan as Israeli territory.
