Tehran conducted flight tests of the Simorgh transport aircraft assembled by the Iranian Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HESA), Iranian Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Support Mohammad Ashtiani said.

“The flight tests of this aircraft are being carried out with the assistance of the Civil Aviation Organization (of Iran), after this stage the Simorgh aircraft will join the aircraft fleet (of the country),” Ashtiani said.

The head of the Ministry of Defense clarified that the second aircraft of this model is currently being assembled. According to him, the task of creating Simorgh was assigned to the Ministry of Defense by the late President Ebrahim Raisi. Ashtiani clarified that some of the parts for the aircraft are produced inside Iran; to provide the other part, Tehran cooperates with a number of foreign countries.

The Simorgh tactical transport aircraft, which has a turboprop engine capable of reaching speeds of up to 530 kilometers per hour, is designed to transport cargo weighing up to 6 tons.
