In Bangladesh, 70 textile factories have closed due to worker protests.

About 70 textile factories have closed in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka due to protests by garment workers on Wednesday, local media reported.

“Garment workers staged protests on Wednesday that resulted in the closure of at least 70 factories in Ashulia, Dhaka,” the media reported.

Protesters are demanding higher wages and better working conditions.

Some factories, as the media clarifies, were closed by the authorities to avoid further escalation, as protests led to clashes and acts of vandalism. In addition, workers blocked some roads, which led to traffic jams. It took the army and police to intervene, calling on protesters to stop blocking traffic.
