In Finland, a temperature record for this winter was set – minus 42.1 degrees, the STT agency reported on Thursday, citing the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

“Enontekijo in Lapland recorded the lowest temperature of this winter, reports the Finnish Meteorological Institute. At half past seven in the morning the temperature at Enontekijo airport was -42.1 degrees Celsius,” the material says.


In Finland, due to frost, commuter and long-distance trains have been delayed for the third day in a row, according to information presented on the website of the Finnish state railway company VR.


Delays range from 30 minutes to three hours. Some routes have been cancelled.

In addition, the ongoing cold has hampered bus and tram services, public broadcaster Yle reports, citing the Helsinki Transport Authority.

More than 150 bus routes were canceled on Wednesday.


Previously, neighboring Sweden set a January temperature record of minus 43.6 degrees, which has not been updated since 1999.
