Every second resident of Austria is experiencing financial difficulties, a survey has shown.

An Ipsos survey of 800 Austrians in June found that 52% were experiencing financial difficulties, Austrian broadcaster Puls24 reported.

“In a survey conducted by Ipsos (among 800 people), only 48% of residents of all federal states said that they are doing well with the money they have. Among people with low levels of education, this figure is even lower – 42%,”  TV channel noted.

According to the same survey, the majority of Austrians also have a gloomy outlook for the next twelve months.

For example, 76% of respondents believe that income will not increase in the coming year. In addition, 67% expect the unemployment rate to continue to rise. Also, 55% expect inflation to rise.

Almost half (46%) expect taxes to rise. At the same time, most people expect household spending to increase.


The survey also showed that 76% of Austrians expect food prices to rise, 71% for leisure, 66% for healthcare, and 52% for rent and loans.


In addition, Austrians were asked what they see as the reason for rising prices. The respondents gave several reasons. Thus, 77% believe that the reason lies in the policy of the federal government, 70% named the global economy as the reason, 69% – the conflict in Ukraine, 60% – immigration.
