The current President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, has violated the law because she is running for a second term as a candidate from the ruling party, although the head of state is obliged to remain neutral, the leader of the Socialist Party, former President of the Republic Igor Dodon said.
⠀
“Maia Sandu has already broken the law. She is participating in the presidential elections as a candidate from a political party, which, in my opinion, is illegal. She did not take leave during the election campaign, as she should have, and is conducting electoral meetings and campaigning as the current president of the country “, Dodon said on N4 TV channel.
⠀
He also noted that Sandu uses foreign politicians “as advertising” and spends a huge amount of money on the campaign.
⠀
“What the current government and the current president are doing has nothing to do with the principles of the rule of law and democratic norms. And some of their actions are even unconstitutional,” the ex-president emphasized.
⠀
There are 11 registered candidates for the post of head of state in the presidential elections. The list includes: former Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo, current President Maia Sandu, ex-prime ministers Vasily Tarlev and Ion Chicu, ex-head of Gagauzia Irina Vlah, ex-head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Andrei Nastase, ex-head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tudor Ulyanovski, ex-Minister of Youth and Sports Octavian Ticu, ex-prosecutor Victoria Furtune, leader of the Our Party political force Renato Usatii and journalist Natalia Morari.

The next presidential elections in Moldova will take place on October 20, simultaneously with the referendum on the country’s accession to the EU.
