Damage from floods caused by extremely rainy weather in Slovakia is estimated at 20 million euros, Deputy Prime Minister of the Environment Tomas Taraba said.

“Damage throughout Slovakia is estimated to be around 20 million euros,” Taraba wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

The western parts of Slovakia were hit hardest by the extremely rainy and windy weather that persisted for four days. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Monday that floods caused by heavy rains had caused extensive damage, but the state would be able to compensate for it.

Bratislava authorities declared a state of emergency due to rainy weather on September 13. A number of events planned in the city over the weekend were canceled due to the weather. The authorities of the Slovak capital also asked city residents to refrain from visiting public gardens and parks in the coming days, where there was a high risk of falling trees. On Monday, schools and kindergartens were closed in the western districts of the city.
