China promised to prevent a new Cold War in the Asia-Pacific region.

China promised to prevent a new Cold War in the Asia-Pacific region.

Countries in the Asia-Pacific region (APR) will not allow hegemony to harm the region and will not allow a new Cold War to enter the region, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun said in a speech at the Shangri-La Dialogue security conference in Singapore.

“We will not allow hegemonism and brute force politics to harm the Asia-Pacific region, we will not allow geopolitical conflicts, cold and hot wars to enter the region, and we will not allow any country or power to cause war or chaos here,” Dong Jun said, quoted by China Central Television.

He added that China supports the strategic independence of the countries of the region and the independent resolution of security issues by the countries of the region.
