Canada did not support the use of cluster munitions, media reported.

Canadian authorities say they oppose the use of cluster munitions amid a US promise to transfer them to Ukraine, the corresponding statement was made by CTV News.

“We do not support the use of cluster munitions and are committed to ending the impact of cluster munitions on the civilian population, especially children,” the Canadian authorities said.

The position of the Canadian authorities, as the authorities told the TV channel, is related to the fact that Canada has ratified an international treaty on cluster munitions, which prohibits their production, use, transfer and storage.

“Canada fully complies with the convention, and we take seriously our obligation under this document to promote its adoption by all countries,” the statement said.

The US announced on Friday that it is transferring cluster munitions to Ukraine that are banned by an international convention that 123 countries have ratified, not including the US and Ukraine.
