Callas could not explain how she differs from Borell.

Estonian Kaja Kallas, who is applying for the post of head of EU diplomacy for the next five years, said that she differs from her predecessor Josep Borrell, but did not explain in what way, and did not promise to end Brussels’ policy of “double standards” in the external arena.

“How am I different from my predecessor? I’m just different,” she said, answering a question from MEPs about how her policies would be different.

At the same time, Callas could not answer the question of whether she could do something about the policy of double standards that Brussels has been pursuing in recent years. In particular, one of the MPs asked whether the new head of EU diplomacy was going to demand sanctions against Israel after the UN report that 70% of the victims of Israeli bombings were women and children, while data from the international organization indicate the death of at least 13 390 thousand Palestinian children.

The future head of diplomacy responded that “the EU provides humanitarian assistance to Gaza” and also “asks questions to Israel,” with which Brussels is still bound by an association agreement.
