Borrell called for increased support for Ukraine, despite the split in the EU.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, against the backdrop of contradictions between EU members, called for continued and increased support for Kyiv on their part.

“Now is not the time to reduce our support for Ukraine; on the contrary, it needs to be increased,” he said before the start of meetings of the foreign ministers of the European Union in Brussels, answering questions from journalists about Hungary’s position.

Hungary is currently blocking the eighth tranche of military aid to Kiev from the European Peace Fund in the amount of 500 million euros, as well as packages of military (20 billion euros) and macro-financial (50 billion euros) support for Kyiv from the EU for 2024-2027. In addition, Budapest opposes the launch of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU at the EU summit on December 14-15.
