EU countries must refuse to supply arms to third countries in order to secure Ukraine, EU diplomacy head Josep Borrell said at a press conference in Warsaw with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
⠀
“A significant portion of our products are exported to third countries. As I have already explained to my fellow ministers in recent days, the fastest, cheapest and most effective way to increase the supply of ammunition to Ukraine is to stop supplies to third countries,” he said.
⠀
Buyers of European ammunition can wait a few months because they are “not at war,” Borrell said.
He stressed that EU members must make such a political decision.
⠀
In turn, the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry supported this position.
⠀
“There are two points. If we produce something for third countries, the high representative called (and I support him in this): we must find ways to ensure that the ammunition needed by Ukraine does not go to less urgent places, to customers in other parts of the world. Maybe we need to change these contracts somehow or find understanding among the recipients that Ukraine urgently needs this,” Sikorsky said.
⠀
He added: “if we are talking about purchases on world markets in favor of Ukraine, then “it seems to him that the more, the better.”
