Biden said he called on Netanyahu for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza.

US President Joe Biden said he had indicated to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the need to temporarily impose a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to allow the remaining hostages to be removed.

“Over the past few days, I have had detailed discussions with the Prime Minister of Israel <…> I pointed out the need to introduce a temporary ceasefire in order to free the prisoners and hostages. I still hope that this can be done,” Biden said during the special address.

According to the US President, he expects that while this initiative is being considered, Israel will not attempt a large-scale ground offensive.
