US President Joe Biden called on Azerbaijani head of state Ilham Aliyev to complete work on a peace agreement with Armenia this year.

“I am pleased to see that Azerbaijan and Armenia have made steady progress towards a peace agreement that normalizes relations between your countries… Along with ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the peace agreement will transform the entire region, paving the way for increased trade, investment and ties between Europe and Central Asia. With the world’s attention focused on COP29, you have a unique opportunity to demonstrate your commitment to peace before the global public. As you know, finalizing the remaining points of the peace agreement will require creativity and compromise on all sides. I am confident that you will not fail to take advantage of this opportunity, and I urge you to complete work on the agreement this year,” Biden’s letter to Aliyev said.

In 2022, Yerevan and Baku, through the mediation of Russia, the United States and the EU, began discussing a future peace treaty. At the end of May last year, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Yerevan is ready to recognize the sovereignty of Azerbaijan within Soviet borders, that is, together with Karabakh.
