China believes that the G20 should be used only to discuss the economy, not the crisis in Ukraine, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a briefing on Friday. It was an official response to a statement by the G7 countries against Russia’s participation in G20 affairs.

“We drew attention to the corresponding statement of the G7 countries. The G20 and relevant international organizations are platforms for discussing international financial and economic issues, not the Ukrainian problem,” the diplomat said.

Prior to this, the G7 countries said that Russia has no right to receive any finance from international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. They, among other things, expressed regret over Russia’s participation in international forums, including meetings of the G20, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank this week.
