An earthquake occurred in Turkey.

An earthquake of magnitude 5 occurred in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaraş in the southeast of the country, authorities said. 


The disaster management authority (AFAD) said the magnitude 5 tremor occurred around 09.31 local time and was located at a depth of about 7 kilometers near the city of Evry and 50 kilometers from the city of Gaziantep, with a population of more than 1.5 million people.


The department noted that no negative consequences from the disaster have yet been recorded.

 


Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 occurred in Kahramanmaraş province on February 6, 2023, nine hours apart. The Turkish authorities called the earthquakes “the disaster of the century”; more than 53 thousand people became victims of the earthquakes, and more than 107 thousand were injured.
