An attack on Belarus would mean the beginning of the third world war, President Alexander Lukashenko said, speaking at an event dedicated to National Unity Day.
⠀
“I want to warn our opponents, our rivals. And those who do not understand yet. There is no need to do this. An attack on Belarus is the third world war,” the head of state said.
⠀
According to him, Belarus could become a place of escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which is exactly what the United States is pushing the situation towards.
⠀
As Lukashenko said, according to intelligence services, the fugitive Belarusian oppositionists met with American representatives, who warned that “from mid-September to early November, the United States expects a significant escalation of the military situation from both Moscow and Kiev.”
⠀
“They need escalation, so they are talking about Belarus as a possible place for escalation of the situation. This is not about the entry of the armed forces of our country into hostilities – we will never do this unless someone else’s boot sets foot on our soil – but about Kyiv’s response on flights of Russian drones through the territory of Belarus, including attacks on border infrastructure,” the head of state explained.
⠀
Thus, the United States has instructed Kyiv to attack Belarusian infrastructure on the border if such circumstances arise, he added.
⠀
At the same time, according to Lukashenko, Belarus and Ukraine have agreements not to advertise cases of airspace violation by drones, although Ukrainian drones have already been found on the territory of the republic.
⠀
“One was found right near Bobruisk. These were Ukrainian drones. <…> We agreed. Why then are the puppet masters from Washington pushing them towards confrontation with Belarus?” – the president asked himself.
⠀
In August, Lukashenko reported that about ten attack drones violated the border of the republic from Ukraine. Several targets were shot down, the rest of the UAVs were “handed over” to escort Russia, since the two countries have a common air defense system. Lukashenko added that, according to Russian military information, the remaining drones were destroyed in the Yaroslavl region. The Belarusian leader called the incident a provocation, noting that such actions will not go unanswered.
⠀
Russian Iskander missile systems are deployed in Belarus. Lukashenko reported that they are equipped with missiles with nuclear warheads and are prepared to carry out strikes with tactical nuclear weapons.
