A 500-kilogram German World War II bomb found in the courtyard of a residential building in the UK has been defused, one of the largest such operations since its end, the country’s Ministry of Defense said.

“A 500kg bomb found in the back garden of a house in Plymouth, which caused one of the largest evacuation operations since the end of the Second World War, was safely defused by bomb disposal experts from the British Army and Royal Navy,” a statement published on UK government website said.

It is noted that the SC-500 bomb itself was discovered on Tuesday; for its transportation, more than 10 thousand people were evacuated from the area where it was located, and then from the surrounding area along the route along which it was transported before being detonated at sea. More than 100 military personnel were involved in the neutralization operation.
