Donald Trump didn’t speak with Xi Jinping after the inauguration. But the American governor sent the letter to his counterpart, where he expressed hopes for creating better relations.
Trump sent this message to show he appreciated Xi’s congratulations for the inauguration. The U. S. President also congratulated Chinese people with the Lunar New Year of the Rooster and mentioned he hopes to improve relations between countries.
“President Trump looks forward to working with President Xi to develop a constructive relationship that benefits both the United States and China,” White House representatives said.
Trump didn’t meet with Xi after the inauguration, but, according to sources, American President’s first steps in the office made his counterpart nervous. Specifically, Beijing worried about the leader’s possible humiliation because of failed negotiations with Trump. The same thing already happened with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
“It would be incredibly embarrassing for President Xi and for Chinese people, who value the concept of face,” one source mentioned.
Such worries make Chinese President to delay the personal response to Trump’s letter. Diplomats highlight these types of conversations should be organized only in the controlled environment. Mr. Xi can also “stay in the sidelines” as he sees Trump is too busy with other issues to focus his attention on China, sources added.
Donald Trump will be honored in Italy
Trump works as an inaugurated president less than a month, but Chinese and other countries’ actions showed he already created a resonance in the world community. While some people criticize him, other want to honor the new American governor, and the acknowledgement came not from Trump’s own nation. According to Fox News, a little village in the central part of Italy wants to build a marble statue of the U. S. President.
The mayor of Vagli di Sotto (population less than 1,000 people), Mario Puglia, plans to construct a big, marble statue of the sitting U.S. president in the village’s Park of Honor and Dishonor.
“I’m not going to enter into a discussion over whether his actions are right or wrong,” Puglia told local Italian media. “But at the moment Trump is the only politician who is following through on his promises, doing what he said on the campaign trail.”
People from Italy and USA already expressed the readiness to invest about $100,000 to the project. The statue’s goal is to attract tourists. While the village is already popular (there were around 250,000 visitors last year) the mayor hopes to make it even more attractive.
