Andy Murray will not play for the country tennis squad in the forthcoming Davis Cup match with Canada. Leon Smith, the UK team coach, decided that it will be too much for Sir Andy — the player needs some time to recover after Australian Open 2017.
Davis Cup starts in a week in Canada, but the fans will not see Andy Murray at the Ottawa tennis courts. According to the Leon Smith, Sir Murray wasn’t included in the UK squad for the Davis Cup match with Canada.
Nevertheless, there is a chance Andy might still play. Meanwhile, Mr Smith announced the expected UK tennis squad – Kyle Edmund, Dan Evans, Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot. As we can see, at least one Murray will defend the UK’s tennis honour in Ottawa.
“I’m delighted to name the four players travelling for this away tie,”
Smith said in Melbourne, where he has been watching Dan Evans’s huge progress to the 4th round.
Regarding Andy Murray, Leon Smith explained:
‘We will continue to speak with Andy in the coming days regarding his potential involvement and if he decides he would like to be part of the team then we can, of course, change the nominations as necessary.’
