The Vatican spoke about the pope’s condition

Pope Francis, who was hospitalized with pneumonia, spent a quiet night after an asthmatic attack, the press service of the Holy See told reporters.

“The night passed quietly, the pope rested,” the Vatican press service reported.

The day before, the pontiff suffered an asthmatic respiratory attack, received artificial oxygen, and received a blood transfusion after a drop in platelet levels. The press service’s statement notes that the pope’s condition remains critical. At the same time, the pontiff remains conscious.

On February 14, at the end of the audience, 88-year-old Pope Francis went to Rome’s Gemelli clinic for an examination and continued treatment of bronchitis in hospital settings. Events with the participation of the pontiff were canceled. Later examinations showed the onset of bilateral pneumonia.

On Friday, the pope’s attending doctors said he would probably remain in the hospital for at least the next week. Doctors deny that the pontiff is out of danger, but state that his condition is not life-threatening.
