Finland has launched an investigation into cable damage in the Baltic Sea

The Finnish police announced the start of a preliminary investigation into damage to the C-Lion1 cable in the Baltic Sea.

SVT TV channel reported on Friday about another cable damage in the Baltic Sea off the Swedish island of Gotland. The C-Lion1 telecommunication cable connects Finland and Germany. The Finnish operator Cinia reported that the alleged damage did not affect the operation of the connection.

“The Central Criminal Police has launched a preliminary investigation into the damage to a cable belonging to a Finnish company,” the statement said.

According to law enforcement officials, the cable damage was discovered on February 19 in the exclusive economic zone of Sweden. A preliminary investigation was launched on February 20 based on a request from the cable operator.

The C-Lion1 cable was previously damaged twice in November and December 2024.
