The administration of US President Donald Trump is closing immigration offices in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala, through which migrants could legally enter the States, CBS reports, citing internal government documents in its possession.
⠀
US immigration offices in these countries were created under the administration of former US President Joe Biden, which hoped to provide migrants with an alternative to illegally crossing the southern US border.
⠀
“Offices set up in Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Guatemala allowed some migrants living in or passing through these countries to apply for programs that would allow them to enter the United States legally… The Trump Administration is ending these offices “, a publication on the channel’s website says.
⠀
As noted in the CBS News report, this decision was made as part of “a broader strategy to assess how the United States manages migration processes in accordance with its national interests.”

On Monday, Trump, in his first speech as the 47th president of the United States, promised to immediately stop the entry of illegal immigrants into American soil and begin the process of extraditing millions of migrants. Trump also declared a national emergency due to the situation on the southern border of the United States.
