Authorities in the Mexican city of Tijuana, which is the largest in the state of Baja California and borders the United States, said they decided to declare a state of emergency amid numerous media reports about the threat of the arrival of a large number of migrants as part of their mass deportation from the United States.
⠀
“The Tijuana City Council … unanimously approved the declaration of a state of emergency in the city due to unforeseen circumstances arising from numerous statements published in various national and international media regarding the arrival of migrants as a result of mass deportations across the international border between this city and the State of California “, – a statement published on the city authorities’ page on the social network Facebook said.

The mayor of the city, Ismael Burgueño, in turn, said that this decision was made “to guarantee decent treatment, respect for human rights and the allocation of the necessary resources.”
⠀
Donald Trump previously said that on his first day in office he would sign a package of decrees to close the American border to illegal migrants. He promised that “every foreign gang member and illegal alien on American soil will be disbanded, deported and destroyed.”
⠀
In December, CNN reported, citing sources, that Trump’s team is also exploring various ways to cancel the acquisition of American citizenship by place of birth, including refusing to issue documents to children of parents without passports and tightening requirements for tourist visas.

Trump has repeatedly expressed his intention to tighten the immigration policy of the United States and condemned Biden for inaction. However, the incoming Trump administration, discussing plans for mass detention and deportation of undocumented migrants, faces the same resource constraints as Biden. The issue of regulating migration policy remains the subject of heated debate in the United States.
