Beijing hopes Germany will stop fanning the threat of Chinese spies.

China hopes that Germany will stop inflating the so-called threat of “Chinese spies,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a briefing on Friday.

Earlier, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced that it had brought charges against three German citizens who are suspected of spying for China. It is reported that the prosecutor’s office has enough evidence to suspect the accused of working for a foreign intelligence service and violating the foreign trade law.

“China has always developed relations with Germany based on the principles of mutual respect and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, and promoted mutually beneficial cooperation with Germany based on respect for laws and regulations,” Guo Jiakun said.

He expressed the hope that “Germany will stop inflating the so-called threat of ‘Chinese spies’ and will not create obstacles to the healthy and stable development of relations between the PRC and Germany.”

In April last year, the German prosecutor’s office reported that three people were detained in Germany on suspicion of spying for China in order to transfer information about dual-use technical innovations to the Chinese intelligence services. It was also reported about the arrest of Maximilian Kra Jian Guo, who worked for the main candidate from the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party for the elections to the European Parliament, in connection with suspicions of espionage in favor of the PRC.
