France has named a new prime minister.

France has named a new prime minister.

The 73-year-old centrist leader of the Democratic Movement (Modem) party, Francois Bayrou, has been named the new Prime Minister of France.

“François Bayrou has been appointed prime minister,” the French president’s office announced.

A ceremony will take place at the Matignon Palace to transfer power from outgoing Prime Minister Michel Barnier to the new head of the Cabinet.

Last week, the French Parliament passed a vote of no confidence in French Prime Minister Barnier, put forward by the left-wing party France Defiant. 331 out of 577 parliamentarians voted in his support.

Thus, Barnier was forced to resign as prime minister, and the French government was dismissed due to a vote of no confidence by parliamentarians for the first time in 1962. It worked for 90 days and became the shortest in the history of the country.
